Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. In the year 1967, Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed in Washington DC. In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. In 1992, she was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist and anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist at the debates in 1988 with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards in journalism, among them the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered many notable issues, such as the arm control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits in the company of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
